Belton, Missouri was established in 1872. Our founders were George W. Scott and William H. Colbern. Mr. Scott named this town after a close friend from the Civil War, Capt. Marcus Lindsey Belt. Both surveyed the land to bring the town of Belton to life. The land itself sits at a ridge that extends into Lee Summit. Plus we sit at the highest point between Springfield and Liberty Memorial Hill (1200 ft.). The majority of the settlers that came to Belton arrived from Kentucky and Shawnee Indians lived four miles west of Belton.

In 1941 Richards-Gebaur Airport, named after two war veterans, was built. By 1955 the airport was deeded to the United States Air Force from Kansas City. The housing district we know today was deactivated in 1976 declaring it as surplus property. It was later given back to Kansas City in August 1985. A declaration was made on April 20, 1982 to give rights to Cimarron Trails from the previous owners, Southwest Tracor Homes, Inc. This was the start of what we know as Cimarron Trails Association Inc. September 10, 1982 is CTA's birthday. We were declared a corporation division by Secretary of State, James C. Kirkpatrick. Phyllis M. Palmer was the 1st President of CTA along with Diana Hughes, the 1st treasurer. Many others have accepted the roles laid by this organization. Please check out our CTA's Past Leaders and let us know of any history we may not have known.
